Costa Marinakis and his partner and brother Dimitri Marinakis have been the owners of D&C Alabama Landscape Incorporation since 1997. The brothers established the company after years of working together in a lawn business. They started a small lawn care business in 1988 with a truck, a small trailer and a few pieces of lawn equipment. Today they employ approximately 20 people and run three crews daily.

D&C Alabama Landscape primarily works on new home sites doing backfills on foundations, irrigation, construction cleanup and complete landscaping. Their work includes subdivisions and entrances into neighborhoods throughout Jefferson, Shelby, Cullman and Blount Counties. During peak season, their lawn division stays busy with planned maintenance for homeowners and businesses, while new home construction keeps them busy preparing sites for landscaping.

It was a Cat 252 Skid Steer Loader,” says Costa Marinakis. “In fact we bought two of them. I remember it was right after 9-11 and we weren’t sure what the economy was going to do. It proved to be a good investment,” adds Costa. To date, D&C Alabama Landscape owns the 252 Skid Steer Loaders, a 262C Loader, a 257 Loader and a 247 Loader. They also own several attachments for their machines including a T9 Trencher, a Rock Rake, an Angler with attachments and a Grapple Bucket. Costa regularly works with the Birmingham location of the Thompson Cat Rental Store for D&C’s equipment purchases and any rental needs that might come up.

The drought and housing markets have not affected their business much as construction crews the J&G contracts with continually stay busy in the new home construction business. Costa and Dimitri work with three contractors on a regular basis and are hired by crews across the geater Birmingham area.
